UNIVERSAL PICTURES - 1923

We all know that Walt arrived in Hollywood in July 1923, three months before founding the DISNEY BROS. STUDIO with Roy. At some point during that time Walt tried to sell himself as a director and even managed to enter the UNIVERAL PICTURES lot, where according to Leonard Mosley, Lon Chaney was filming THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.

Although the above snapshots are dated March 3, 1923 it is possible they were still shooting at the time Walt arrived, would this have been something of what Walt had witnessed? Imagine Walt's awe in seeing a real movie studio for the first time, I remember how I felt walking the backlot of WARNER BROS. when I first went out there.

We began shooting "The Hunchback" on December 16, 1922 and wrapped on June 3, 1923. That is, indeed, the set of said picture in the background.

Thank you for that information, I would love to hear more, I assume you are related to Lon Chaney. I have a few more snapshots from the set, but only of extras, I'd be happy to share them.

It's all relative — just ask Einstein.

Are you on MySpace and/or Facebook? An extremely private man, I'd rather not divulge my email address publicly. However, you can contact me via both of those forums by searching for "Lon Chaney." I haunt the former more than the latter.

I'm glad that I could be of help.
